The 2010 Run to Home Base 9K at Fenway Park
was a smashing success!
Thanks to the support of our nearly 2,150 runners, multiple generous sponsors — especially New Balance — and 350+ volunteers, the Run to Home Base 9K on May 23, 2010 raised nearly $2.4 million.
Beyond the funds raised to help provide necessary services for servicemen and women returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with combat stress and traumatic brain injuries, a number of veterans participating in the Run used the occasion to publicly discuss their "invisible wounds" and their diagnosis of combat stress and brain injury. This direct outreach by veterans will continue to help encourage other veterans and families to seek the care they deserve and may need.
Thousands of friends and family members of the runners attended the event watching from the stands at Fenway Park and enjoyed exhibits provided by sponsors and veteran organizations. More than 20,000 individuals made gifts in support of the runners. Volunteers assembled more than 1,500 care packages for servicemen and women serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. Thank you to all that made this event so special!
